Principal's Message
First and foremost, welcome to school for 2024!!
I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to each of you as we embark on the exciting journey of a new school year. It has been amazing to be involved in such a successful start to school. Students have displayed with enthusiasm and positive school attitudes as they settle back in to school and routine. A buzz of excitement has filled the air as students have made new friends, engaged with staff, and reconnected with old friends after the holiday break.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families, new students and new staff into our wonderful community. I trust that you are settling in well to Alyangula community.
I am thrilled to announce the safe arrival of Ms Ae’s baby! Congratulations to Eilis and Justin on the safe arrival of their baby, Arnhem Stuart Smart who was born on 6th February 2024. We look forward to meeting baby Arnhem when they return to Groote Eylandt in the coming weeks.
A friendly reminder to our families the 2024 Back to School vouchers, valued at $200 each, are now available for redemption at the school office. These vouchers are provided by the NT Government to subside the costs associated with schooling and are available for all students. Back to school vouchers can be utilised towards school fees, book packs, and school uniforms. Voluntary parent contributions ($100) can also be paid at the admin office and assist the school to cover the costs of 1:1 devices and the upkeep, ICT infrastructure, materials for electives and incursions, resources for specialists and extracurricular activities. Voluntary contributions allow the school to provide contemporary and engaging learning opportunities for our students and can be paid in full or in termly or semesterly instalments.
As we commence another school year, I encourage all families to stay connected with us through our regular channels of communications. Each student would have brought home a QR code to assist families to connect with their individual student page. Seesaw is used to offer a window into your child's educational journey and provides a platform for school communications. If you have not received a copy of your child’s log in details, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Also -don’t forget to follow us on Facebook for regular updates, event highlights, and glimpses into the daily life at Alyangula Area School.
A huge thank you to the parents who generously contributed their time and efforts to today's Working Bee. Thank you to Sarah Jameson, Bernie Hujbert, Simon Liddle, Gary Jones, Ash Selleck, Alex Mohenoa, Chris Diamond, Erin Harvey, Kellianne and Joe Receiver, Robyn Narisia for your sweat and dedication to work in our school garden is beyond appreciated! It is heart-warming to see the spirit of collaboration thriving within our community. We are currently seeking applications for a maintenance/gardener position at our school. If you or someone you know possesses the skills and passion for maintaining our school grounds and assisting with day to day maintenance works, barge and post office runs, we encourage you to apply or spread the word to potential candidates.
Lastly, don't forget that our community library is open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. It's a fantastic opportunity to escape the heat and immerse yourself in the world of literature.

To receive a Principal's Award, a student must have received 4 Merit or Value Awards.
The parents are to bring the 4 awards to the front office and the student will be presented a Principal's Award at the following assembly.

Congratulations to our newly elected Alyangula Area School Student Representative Council (SRC) members!!
A Student Representative Council (SRC) consists of one students from each class (Year 4-12) who are elected by their peers to represent the veiws of students to staff. They are also involved with school assemblies, activities and fundraising. SRC's work democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making and organise ways for students to participate in and enjoy school life.
We look foward to the positive changes they make around our school.
