2025 Term 4 Week 2 Newsletter
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
It’s been a fantastic start to Term 4 at Alyangula Area School, with students and staff returning calm, settled, and ready for a strong finish to the year. The first two weeks have been filled with energy and achievement. Our Year 5–8 students participated in a Leadership Program delivered by AFL NT, developing teamwork, confidence, and communication skills through sport-based challenges. We also celebrated Mental Health Day, where classes focused on kindness, gratitude, and staying connected — reminding us all of the importance of wellbeing as we head into a busy term.
A highlight of the fortnight was our whole-school Swimming Carnival, which was an incredible display of teamwork, effort, and community spirit. A huge thank you to Mr Peter Molnar for his coordination and expertise in ensuring another successful event, and to our House Captains for their outstanding leadership, encouragement, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to the Scorpions, who took out the overall win!
Behind the scenes, staff have been working hard to build on the school’s literacy improvement journey. This term, our teachers are investigating the role of morphology — understanding how word parts such as roots, prefixes, and suffixes contribute to meaning and spelling. This professional learning supports our continued focus on closing gaps in student learning and ensuring strong literacy foundations as we prepare our students for 2026.
Looking ahead, Week 4 will bring plenty of excitement with our Halloween Disco during Session 5, accompanied by an SRC Special Halloween Lunch Day — a spooky celebration for all students. We’ll also acknowledge World Teachers’ Day on Thursday 31 October, taking time to celebrate the dedication, care, and professionalism of our amazing team of teachers and support staff.
Our 2025 NT School Survey results were very pleasing, reflecting the strong relationships and sense of belonging across our school. 97% of students said they have good friends they care about, 93% feel safe at school, and 90% feel they can talk to teachers about their concerns. Parents also expressed high confidence in our teaching and communication, with 93% agreeing that teachers motivate their child to learn and 91% acknowledging that the school works with them to support learning.
We are also very pleased to welcome Ms Joanne Down to our Alyangula Area School team. Ms Joanne will be with us for the next five weeks, working across classrooms to release teachers for planning and preparation. Please make her feel welcome as she settles into our school community.
One key finding from the survey was that most families prefer to receive student reports electronically, so this semester we’ll be emailing Semester 2 reports directly to families. This approach will make accessing and storing reports simpler and more efficient while helping us reduce paper use.
Thank you to our staff, students, and families for another positive and purposeful start to the term. The energy across our school continues to shine — and it’s wonderful to see everyone working together towards a successful end to 2025.

RISE ProgramThe RISE Rugby League Program supports the development of junior participants by combining skill-building with a fun, team-based experience. Players learn the core fundamentals of rugby league—tackle, catch, pass, and draw-and-pass—through practical, game-sense training. Designed for boys and girls aged 11–18, RISE provides not only a solid foundation in rugby league development but also an active, enjoyable program that builds teamwork, confidence, and a love for the game.
Each RISE training session is built around practical activities that support a gradual, learner-focused approach, progressing at a pace suited to the athlete’s development. Sessions are underpinned by games and Game Sense activities that promote teamwork, tactical awareness, and—most importantly—fun. Alongside core rugby fundamentals, athletes also engage in technical running mechanics, bodyweight-based physical competency activities, and mental health initiatives that build decision-making skills, life skills, and nutritional awareness.
